CHARACTER
character name | I-No Kurenai (last name is non-canon)
age | 18
year | Fourth year
gender | Female
appearance | I-No has black hair that she keeps cut short. She has a distinctive mole above her lips. Her eyes shift color depending on angle (likely not as extreme as in canon, where it's unusual but not unnatural).

AU history | I-No was born in the United State of America to the founder and owner of a company known as the Gear Project. Her father is known as a fairly ruthless businessman who’s made a number of enemies but also quite a lot of money. His R&D department is also one of the best in the country, and he ostentatiously gives to charity. I-No’s mother died shortly after she was born, too soon for I-No to have any real memories, and I-No is incredibly devoted to her father. He’s the reason that she hasn’t entirely given up on finishing schools, and his money is the reason that finishing schools keep accepting her. After her mother’s death, her father did remarry and I-No has a stepsister who’s a couple of years younger, that she does feel very protective over.
Certainly I-No’s acted up a lot, and even been expelled from a couple of schools. Her academic record is a disaster of getting into fights and while she does alright in classes it’s very clear that she doesn’t actually have any interest in becoming a proper young lady. She does best in mathematics, since despite what might be common, her father is trying to get her to take an interest in his company. The exact nature of that interest isn’t something that she herself knows, but it does inspire her to try to behave, when he’s around. She always does substantially better after visits home or visits to the school by her father (although those are rare, he’s a busy man) but the effect starts to fade through time.
She does love music, but her music education has mostly been through private tutors, so her transcript doesn’t make note of that particular passion. It can be used as a bribe, and while piano is not her preferred instrument (that would be trombone), she’s quite good at it.
personality | To say that I-No isn't a nice person is more than a bit of an understatement. She delights in controlling others and in tormenting them. When faced with the opportunity to cause chaos she will usually do so. It isn't so much that she's evil as that she has no real moral compass and she does what amuses her. In some cases this leads to allying herself with characters who are interested in good, but in others it leads to her teasing and causing pain to more innocent characters.
In addition to her general amusement at other people's plights -- particularly if she's the one to cause them -- I-No is very crass. She speaks rudely and aggressively to people, and takes particular joy in causing them physical and emotional pain. Another noticeable aspect of I-No's personality is her self-confidence. It is entirely genuine: she believes that she's one of the best things to walk the Earth. She is also entirely self-centered. She will gladly sacrifice other people's lives if it leads to any amount of comfort or amusement for her. She's not purely evil, because sometimes she thinks the most amusing path is to allay herself with those forces which are trying to effect positive change.
I-No's only redeeming quality, as much as it exists, is her loyalty. Although it is evident that she would prefer to work for her own amusement, she lets That Man tell her what to do and she gives up control to him. Admittedly, she does this for two main reasons: it amuses her and he punishes her when she goes astray, but while she strains at her metaphorical leash to cause more chaos, when she steps out of line she does it more out of boredom than a desire to circumvent That Man. In this au, I-No’s loyalty is to her father.
One of I-No's main weakness is that for all she plays at innocence it's an incredibly obvious act. Ky says that he can see nothing but evil in her eyes, and I-No doesn't even pretend to be bothered by that. She's decent at manipulating people for a short amount of time, but if they're good at reading people or if she has to keep up the effort she typically gets bored of it. Another weakness is how upset she gets when things aren't going the way she wants them to. I-No wants to always have control, and when people don't do what she wants she tends to snap, turn nasty, and do her best to force them to comply. If she doesn't succeed she tends to get even angrier, and she fights worse when she's upset.
SAMPLES
sample 1 | For the first day of classes, I-No actually bothers to put on every part of her school uniform, and it even looks mostly like she belongs in it. Doing so has put her in a foul mood, of course, but she does at least know the value of making an impression. It's simply that I-No's usual desired impression isn't one of compliance, of fitting in with the rest of these sheep.
Of course, while she might be all due diligence when she's in a classroom or in sight of a teacher, I-No isn't inclined to treat other students any better than usual. At least the first day provides some amusement on that front as well, as she watches their interactions with each other and with the teachers, slotting them into the categories that make sense or amuse her.
That one's nothing but a goody-shoes and is desperate to know which text book we'll be using, she thinks, before her eyes land on another student. That one just wants to know how to get her hands on alcohol -- maybe she's worth keeping an eye on -- and that one is hoping she'll find a boy worth marrying. Eugh.
At least I-No had made it clear to her father that there was no chance of her marrying for anything more than doubling her potential fortune. She couldn't tell if he was amused or not by the claim, but he hadn't argued the point, and that was good enough. It was good enough to have her here, at least.
